IoM to Funchal routing options for Christmas 2026
Flight Research - IoM to Funchal, Madeira (Christmas 2026)
Researched: 3 March 2026
There are no direct flights from the Isle of Man to Funchal. All routes require a connection via a UK mainland airport. This document compares the practical routing options for a trip departing around Tuesday 22 December 2026 and returning around Monday 4 January 2027, for 2 adults.
All prices assume booking now (9 months ahead) and are shown for 2 adults unless stated otherwise.
Detailed airline-by-airline breakdowns are in the supporting documents:
- IoM Flight Research (Loganair and easyJet routes, schedules, pricing)
- UK-Funchal Flight Research (Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair, TUI schedules and pricing)
Leg 1: Isle of Man to UK Hub
Loganair and easyJet both serve the Isle of Man. Loganair includes 15 kg hold baggage in the fare; easyJet does not.
| Route | Airlines | Flight time | Winter frequency | Terminal | 2 adults one way (inc. bags) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| IoM - Manchester | Loganair, easyJet | ~50 min | Loganair up to 2/day; easyJet multiple daily | MAN T2 | Loganair £160-220; easyJet £130-230 |
| IoM - Liverpool | Loganair, easyJet | ~40 min | Lower frequency | LPL single terminal | Loganair £150-200; easyJet £120-200 |
| IoM - Birmingham | Loganair | ~60-90 min | 5/week (not Tue/Sat) | BHX single terminal | £160-220 |
Christmas period notes:
- No flights on Christmas Day (25 December)
- Reduced service on Christmas Eve (24 December) and Boxing Day (26 December)
- Full weekday services on 22-23 December (outward) and 4-5 January (return)
Baggage note: Loganair includes 15 kg hold + 6 kg cabin in all fares. easyJet charges for hold bags (15 kg from ~£15-28 per bag per flight). The easyJet prices above include one 15 kg hold bag each.
Leg 2: UK Hub to Funchal
Madeira is a hugely popular winter sun destination and Christmas/New Year is peak season. Winter 2025/26 had up to 55 weekly UK-Funchal flights. The 2026/27 programme is even larger.
| Route | Airlines | Flight time | Winter frequency | Terminal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manchester - Funchal | Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair, TUI | ~4 hrs | Jet2 2-3x/week + Christmas extras; easyJet 2-3x/week; Ryanair 1-3x/week; TUI 1x/week | Jet2, easyJet, TUI: MAN T2; Ryanair: MAN T3 |
| Liverpool - Funchal | Jet2 only | ~4 hrs | 1x/week (Sat) + likely extra Tue at Christmas | LPL single terminal |
| Birmingham - Funchal | Jet2, TUI | ~3 hr 55 min | Jet2 2x/week (Mon, Thu) + extra Tue at Christmas; TUI 1x/week | BHX single terminal |
Key detail for Christmas: In winter 2025/26, Jet2 added extra Tuesday flights from Manchester, Liverpool, and Birmingham over 23 December to 6 January. This pattern is very likely to repeat for 2026/27, making a Tuesday 22 December departure possible from multiple airports.
Terminal Summary
The terminals used by the IoM flight and the Funchal flight matter for assessing same-day connections and choosing an overnight hotel.
| Routing | IoM flight terminal | Funchal flight terminal | Terminal change? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manchester (Loganair + Jet2) | MAN T2 | MAN T2 | No (same terminal) |
| Manchester (easyJet + easyJet) | MAN T2 | MAN T2 | No (same terminal) |
| Manchester (Loganair + easyJet) | MAN T2 | MAN T2 | No (same terminal) |
| Manchester (any + Ryanair) | MAN T2 | MAN T3 | Yes (10-15 min via Skylink) |
| Liverpool (any + Jet2) | LPL | LPL | No (single terminal) |
| Birmingham (Loganair + Jet2) | BHX | BHX | No (single terminal) |
All the main options except Ryanair avoid a terminal change at Manchester. Loganair, Jet2, easyJet, and TUI all use Terminal 2.
Connection Time Assessment
Per travel preferences: if the gap between arriving at the UK airport and the onward flight is less than 4 hours, an overnight stay is needed. These are separate bookings on separate airlines, so baggage must be collected and re-checked.
Without exact December 2026 timetables, this assessment is based on known schedule patterns:
| Scenario | Likely gap | Overnight needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Outward: IoM morning → Funchal same day | Loganair/easyJet arrives MAN ~08:00. Jet2/easyJet winter morning departures to Funchal typically 06:00-06:35. Morning flights depart before IoM flights arrive. Afternoon departures (if available) give ~6+ hrs gap. | Maybe not if afternoon Funchal flight exists. Yes if only morning flights. |
| Outward: IoM evening → Funchal next morning | Fly IoM to MAN evening before. Funchal flight departs next morning. | Yes (overnight by design) |
| Return: Funchal → MAN → IoM same day | Funchal flights arrive MAN ~15:00-15:30 (afternoon). Loganair/easyJet evening IoM flights depart ~18:00-19:00. Gap ~2.5-3.5 hrs. | Likely yes (under 4 hours) |
| Return: Funchal → MAN → IoM next day | Arrive MAN afternoon/evening. Fly IoM next morning. | Yes (overnight by design) |
In practice, an overnight stay at Manchester is almost certainly needed in both directions, either because:
- The morning Funchal departure means you need to be at the airport before any IoM flight can get you there
- The afternoon return from Funchal leaves too little time (under 4 hours) for a same-day IoM connection
This matches the summer trip pattern. Budget for 2 overnight stays at Manchester (one each way).
Routing Comparison
All prices are for 2 adults, return (booking now for Christmas). IoM bag costs are included where applicable.

Notes:
- Loganair includes 15 kg hold bag; easyJet and Ryanair charge extra (included in totals above)
- Jet2 hold bags are 22 kg (~£30 each); easyJet 15 kg (~£20 each); Ryanair 20 kg (~£25 each)
- For a 2-week trip, 15 kg per person may be sufficient (unlike the 4-week summer trip)
- easyJet Option B could also mix Loganair for the IoM leg and easyJet for the Funchal leg (same T2 for both)
Recommended Routing
1st choice: Via Manchester with Jet2 (Option A)
Why:
- Best IoM frequency (up to 2 Loganair flights per day)
- Good Funchal frequency (2-3x/week, plus Christmas extras expected)
- No terminal change (both Loganair and Jet2 use Manchester Terminal 2)
- Generous 22 kg hold baggage option
- Familiar airport with plenty of overnight hotel options
- Same routing as the summer Madeira trip
Likely outward: Fly IoM → Manchester on Monday 21 December or Tuesday 22 December evening. Stay overnight at Manchester airport hotel. Fly Jet2 Manchester → Funchal on Tuesday 22 December or Wednesday 23 December morning.
Likely return: Fly Jet2 Funchal → Manchester on Sunday 3 January or Monday 4 January afternoon. Stay overnight at Manchester airport hotel. Fly Manchester → IoM on Monday 4 January or Tuesday 5 January morning.
Estimated total: £1,070-1,530 (realistic mid-point ~£1,300)
2nd choice: Via Manchester with easyJet (Option B)
Why:
- Could book both IoM and Funchal legs on the same airline
- Good frequency on both legs
- No terminal change (all T2)
- Slightly cheaper than Jet2 overall
Downsides: Smaller hold bag (15 kg vs 22 kg for Jet2). Less generous cabin bag policy.
Estimated total: £890-1,430 (realistic mid-point ~£1,150)
3rd choice: Via Liverpool with Jet2 (Option D)
Why:
- Shortest IoM hop (40 min)
- No terminal change (single terminal)
- If Jet2 repeats the Christmas Tuesday extras from 2025/26, a Tuesday 22 December departure to Funchal is possible
- Generally cheaper UK overnight hotels than Manchester
Risk: Only 1-2 Funchal flights per week. If the dates do not align, this option fails.
Estimated total: £960-1,420 (realistic mid-point ~£1,200)
Budget option: Via Manchester with Ryanair (Option C)
Why:
- Cheapest Funchal fares
- Could save £100-200 on the Funchal legs compared to Jet2
Downsides: Terminal change at Manchester (T2 → T3), lower frequency (may be only 1x/week in deep winter), less generous baggage.
Estimated total: £890-1,310 (realistic mid-point ~£1,100)
UK Overnight Hotels - Manchester Airport
